We are proud to share the contribution of our member Hanan Kaffoura, who participated as a speaker in Session 2 – Decarbonization and Climate Change at the World Maritime Day Parallel Event, held in Dubai from 30 September to 1 October 2025. The event, organized by the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MOEI) in collaboration with the International Maritime Organization (IMO), focused on the theme “Our ocean, our obligation, our opportunity.” During her intervention, Hanan highlighted: ⚓️ the fundamental role of ports in the green transition, 💻 the importance of digital innovation, 🌱 the challenges and solutions of this transformation, 👩‍🦱 the essential contribution of women in maritime, 👩‍🎓 and the crucial role of young talents for the future of our industry. Our President Costanza Musso was recently interviewed by Il Giornale della Logistica. Speaking about WISTA, she highlighted a key message: “I believe it is important to break down certain communication barriers in the sector, open dialogue and thus create new opportunities. WISTA Italy, which I have represented since 2022, was born precisely from the female approach to networking and from bringing our perspective into the industry.” Founded in London in the 1970s and established in Italy in 1994, WISTA was not created in opposition to the traditional vision, but to provide support and contribute with a different, inclusive and collaborative approach. Catania expands cruise berth capacity for next-generation ships The refurbishment of Berth 25 at the Port of Catania marks a key step in the redevelopment strategy led by Francesco Di Sarcina, President of the Eastern Sicily Sea Port System Authority. With 405 meters in length, a minimum depth of 9 meters, and 7,000 sqm dedicated to land-side logistics, the new berth is ready to host large cruise vessels. Our member Raffaella Del Prete, General Manager at GPH, states: “With Berth 25, Catania now offers three operational cruise berths for next-gen vessels. The extensive surrounding area improves tourist flow and city-port connection, enhancing the guest experience. Il progetto, parte del più ampio piano di riqualificazione promosso dal Presidente dell’Autorità di Sistema Portuale del Mare di Sicilia Orientale, Francesco Di Sarcina, consente oggi l’attracco di grandi navi grazie a 405 metri di banchina, 9 metri di pescaggio minimo e 7.000 mq destinati alla logistica turistica a terra. Today marked the third session with a group of U.S. students visiting Genoa, as part of the program organized by the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority, with our member Antonella Turci joining as speaker. Her talk, titled “Maritime Insurance: A Practical Perspective,” offered a clear and engaging overview—starting from the first marine insurance policy issued in Genoa in 1347, through to today’s main coverage types (H&M, Cargo, P&I, etc.). A special focus was placed on P&I Clubs, and the session concluded with a real case study involving cargo damage during sea transport, which sparked great interest and many questions from the students.
